The Way of Kings

The Way of Kings is the first book in Brandon Sanderson’s new 10 (only rumored) part series known as The Stormlight Archives.  This master piece shows not only great writing ability from Brandon Sanderson but great intelligence as well.  You will find in The Way of Kings book that it’s filled with plot twists and magical details.  If you have seen the book you also know that it’s extremely long but Brandon does not over detail things like in The Lord of Rings series and always keeps the reader entranced.  The book is seventy-five chapters long with 1,008 total pages.  For the audio book version it is a total of forty-five hours and thirty-seven minutes.  I personally think the Audio edition of The Way of Kings is the best for people with a busy schedule or for gamers that need something to entrance them during the daily grind.

The Way of Kings is a story about a world in which Monarchy rules and legends live.  There are several main characters that you will come to know and dozens of secondary.  Each has a unique personality that breathes life into your imagination and will capture your heart.  You will see the faults of the powerful and the strength of the weak.  The Way of Kings is just a start to get you understanding how the past was and how the world works.  Even with an amazing ending you are left wanting more but having to wait until the release of his next book.  While you wait, I strongly recommend reading Brandon’s Elantris (Full Review) or Warbreaker (Full review).

Brandon Sanderson has written several books including the last books of The Wheel of Time after Robert Jordan passed away.  His magnificent style easily worked into the legendary author Robert Jordan epic series of the Wheel of Time.  This new recognition gave him a big bump and has led to Brandon Sanderson becoming a very well-known author. Combining the recognition of the Wheel of time series and with the Trilogy of Mistborn, Brandon Sanderson is expected to produce nothing but greatness in his stories.  The Way of Kings especially shows his great writing skills. 

How does The Way of Kings stack up to all the other great works the Brandon has produced?  In simple terms it is his best work to date, in my honest opinion.  I have read every book and short story that Brandon has published and none have captured my imagination and my emotions as deeply as The Way of Kings.  Even though this is just the first book in a major series, it tells a story that will completely mesmerize any fantasy book lover.  I found myself stopping other tasks just to continue reading the story.  Eventually I decided to get the Audiobook as well to see and hear how others would describe The Way of kings.
